This privacy policy describes how the Flint Cultural Center Corporation, operating the Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium ("we", "us"), handles information in connection with the Sloan Longway mobile application (the "App"). The Flint Cultural Center Corporation is a nonprofit organization located in Flint, Michigan, USA.
Information we collect
The App is designed to work without a personal account. We collect only the information needed to provide its features:
- Group visit check-in. If you check in as part of a group visit, you enter a reservation ID and a teacher or leader name. This links your device to your group's visit page for the duration of the visit.
- Photos and videos. If you choose to capture photos or videos during a group visit, they are uploaded to your group's visit page and shared with your group leader. Uploading is always optional and initiated by you.
- Camera access. The App uses your camera to scan exhibit QR codes and to capture photos and videos as described above. Camera images used for QR scanning are processed on your device and are not stored or transmitted.
- Push notifications. If you allow notifications, our notification provider assigns your device a random identifier so we can deliver messages about exhibits and events. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
- Language preference. Your choice of English or Spanish is stored on your device.
What we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or phone number to use the App.
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not show advertising and we do not use advertising trackers.
- We do not sell personal information to anyone.
How we use information
We use the information above solely to operate the App: to show exhibit content, to run group visit check-ins, to deliver the photos and videos a group captures to its leader, and to send notifications you have opted into. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Sharing
We share information only with the service providers that host and operate the App's backend, including cloud hosting (Microsoft Azure) and push notification delivery. These providers process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. Photos and videos captured during a group visit are shared with that group's leader. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Data retention and deletion
Group visit content is retained so that group leaders can access their visit page, and may be removed periodically. To request deletion of photos, videos, or any other information associated with your group visit, contact us at sloan@sloanlongway.org and we will remove it.
Children's privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and is designed to be used by visitors of all ages, often as part of a school or family visit. It does not require any personal information to browse exhibits. Group check-in uses only a reservation ID and a group leader's name, not a child's own information. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the App, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Information sent between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to uploaded group visit content is limited to the group's visit page.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
